The Government Must Immediately Stabilize The Price Of Eggs And Chicken Meat, Beware Of Mothers Complaining
JAKARTA - The government is asked to immediately find a solution to overcome the high price of chicken and eggs in the market. There must be concrete steps to reduce the bad effects felt by the community due to the increase in food prices.
As is known, the increase in the price of chicken meat in the market reached Rp. 34,000 per kilogram from the previous Rp. 25,000. The price of broiler eggs has increased from Rp. 23,000 per kilogram to Rp. 34,000. Even in some areas outside Java, the price of chicken eggs reaches Rp. 42,000 per kilogram.
"The government needs to immediately find an effective solution and concrete action to control the conditions that burden the people," said Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, Monday, May 22.
"Ladies and gentlemen have complained about the high demand for food. We must not remain silent, there must be quick action so that price increases are not prolonged," added Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture reminded that the increase in the price of chickens and eggs will not only have an impact on the community as consumers. This is because the increase in food prices also has an impact on small traders and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
"Keep the stability of the price of basic necessities and the availability of stock in the market to support small business actors," said Bung Karno's grandson.
The increase in the price of chicken and eggs automatically increases production costs, especially those who have businesses with chickens and eggs as the main ingredient for business production. Such as restaurant entrepreneurs and cake entrepreneurs.
"Of course this will have a derivative impact. Because production costs are increasing, MSME players are also forced to increase their selling price or reduce the quality of their merchandise. Again, people will be harmed," said Puan.
The Indonesian House of Representatives through its supervisory function will also supervise food assistance programs in the form of chicken meat and eggs from the Government. Puan emphasized that the assistance program should not be targeted and utilized by certain individuals to gain profits.
"Aid is aimed at people with vulnerable family categories who must be right on target," he said.
Puan also reminded the importance of strict legal supervision and application of monopolistic practices, cartels, and business practices that harm consumers. This must be a priority for the government.
"Inaccurate handling of monopolies, hoarding, or price speculation must be carried out to prevent shortages and unreasonable price increases," said Puan.
Furthermore, the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI encouraged the Central Government and the Regional Government to take various concrete actions to reduce the burden on small communities due to the impact of rising food prices. One of them, according to Puan, is by increasing the number of cheap market activities.
"The government must increase cheap market activities for the community. That way it will ease the burden on the community, especially the small people," he said.
"Because cheap markets provide basic commodities at affordable prices so that they can reduce price increases, while maintaining people's purchasing power," concluded Puan.
