Private Data Of 237,000 US Government Employees Exposed In Data Security Violations At USDOT.

JAKARTA - Personal information of 237,000 employees and former employees of the US federal government was affected by data breaches in the US Department of Transport (USDOT), according to sources informed on Friday, May 12.

The breach attacked the transit benefits processing system TRANServe which provides reimbursement for US government employees for some of their travel expenses. It is not yet clear whether the personal information has been used for criminal purposes.

USDOT said in a statement to Reuters that the breach did not affect any transportation safety system. USDOT did not specify who might be responsible for the breach.

The department is investigating the breach and has frozen access to the transit benefit system to safety and recover.

The maximum benefit of the allowance is USD 280 per month (IDR 4.1 million) for the cost of mass transportation of federal employees.
