Director General Of Immigration Targets All Offices To Issue E-Passports At The End Of 2023

JAKARTA - Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim targets all Immigration offices to issue electronic passports by the end of 2023, while visiting the Bandung Class I Immigration Office.

"God willing, by the end of 2023, all 126 Immigration offices can serve the issuance of electronic passports. We are currently preparing the infrastructure," said Silmy as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 12.

In addition to preparing system infrastructure, Silmy has also instructed to increase the stock of electronic passports in line with the increasing trend of requests for these chip passports in recent months.

Silmy revealed that he directly monitors the stock of the availability of blanks for electronic passports in 52 Immigration offices that have served the issuance of electronic passports.

"It must be admitted, currently the stock of blanks is running low, but we continue to increase our supply to meet the increasing demand for electronic passports," he said.

Silmy also mentioned plans to increase the class of several Immigration offices which are seen as ready to be upgraded in class.

This is an adaptation of the development of the quality of public services which must continue to be improved.

"We think that the Bandung-like Immigration office can be upgraded to class 1 specifically, given its high workload and strategic location. I also propose other Immigration offices to be raised in class," said Silmy.
