Don't Be Surprised! Medan-Binjai Toll Tariffs Will Rise In The Near Future
JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) said that in the near future an adjustment will be made to the Medan-Binjai (MeBi) toll tariff.
This tariff adjustment was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Operations Director III Hutama Karya Koentjoro said the tariff adjustment was in accordance with Road Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 38 of 2004 concerning Roads Article 48 paragraph 3 which states that toll road tariff adjustments can be made every two years based on the influence of inflation rate and evaluation of the fulfillment of Toll Road Minimum Service Standards (SPM).
Since its operation in October 2017, the MeBi toll road has never been adjusted, which should have been done in 2019 and 2021.
"The COVID-19 pandemic and the increase in fuel prices in October 2022 to 30 percent have made Hutama Karya postpone the adjustment of the MeBi toll tariff, so as not to burden the community," said Koentjoro in a written statement, quoted on Friday, May 5.
"With the current consideration, the economy has recovered, in which inflation in April 2023 is lower than last October. Meanwhile, in April 2023 it has decreased to 4.33 percent, so this is the right time for tariff adjustments," he added.
According to Koentjoro, Hutama Karya has committed that the tariff adjustment on the toll road has been followed by fulfillment and improvement of Minimum Service Standards (SPM), such as continuing to maintain and improve transaction and operational services, where currently the MeBi Toll Road has 26 transaction substations spread across four Toll Gates (GT), namely GT Binjai, GT Semayang, GT Helvetia, and GT Marelan.
Then, there are 10 standby fleets consisting of ambulances, rescue cars, cranes, highway services and Highway Patrols (PJR), 55 CCTV with two camera directions that are monitored for 24 hours in control rooms, five variable messages (VMS), and carry out routine maintenance of toll roads and beautification.
"This tariff adjustment will also have an impact on the sustainability of toll roads, by increasing the level of investor trust in toll roads that are managed and creating a conducive toll road investment climate," concluded Koentjoro.
