Kendari Police Chief Kombes Muhammad Eka Fathurrahman said the operation was carried out by the Kendari Police Traffic Unit at around 05.30 WITA or after the dawn prayer.
"We deliberately carried out the operation at dawn, because many teenagers like to do illegal racing after dawn and dawn prayers," Eka explained, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 23.
He explained that as many as 14 motorbikes involved in illegal racing and using racing exhausts were detained in two different places, namely the Kendari Beach area in Kendari Barat District as many as 10 units and in the Bonggoeya Panjang Market area, Anawai District with four units.
To provide a deterrent effect, the detention of the motorbike was taken to the Kendari Police Headquarters for further processing.
The former Director of Drug Investigation (Resnarkoba) of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police said that the operation to control vehicles was one of the police's efforts to suppress the rise of illegal racing actions carried out by a group of teenagers in Kendari City.
"What is often done in the Holy Month of Ramadan is that the illegal racing action carried out by the youth group has deeply disturbed other road users," he said.
He also emphasized that the operation would continue to be carried out by the Kendari Police Traffic Unit during the Holy Month of Ramadan 1444 Hijri.
