Mamuju Regent Asks Traders Not To Play With Prices For Profits

JAKARTA The buying and selling activity in the month of Ramadan this year will certainly increase. Therefore, the Regent of Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar), Sutinah Suhardi asked traders not to play with prices to gain profits.

"The government in Mamuju asks traders not to play with prices to profit in the holy month of Ramadan 1444 Hijri, because it can result in dealing with the law," said Regent Sutinah Suhardi, quoting Antara, Wednesday, March 22.

He said the Government in Mamuju hoped that there would be no more increase in the price of basic necessities in the Mamuju city market ahead of Ramadan.

According to him, the government in Mamuju will continue to monitor the prices of basic necessities along with a number of vertical agencies such as BPOM Mamuju, Bank BI representing West Sulawesi and the Head of BPS Mamuju Regency as well as the TNI and Polri.

"If there is a price game, law enforcement officials are asked to take firm action against traders who are looking for profit by taking advantage of the situation ahead of Ramadan, according to applicable regulations," he said.

He said the government in Mamuju would continue to anticipate that there would be no increase that could burden the community's economy.

"From monitoring a number of basic needs in Mamuju Market, there has been an increase in the price of two commodities which is important for the community to face the holy month of Ramadan," he said.

The Regent said that a number of foodstuffs, such as red chilies, had increased by 10 percent. Likewise, chicken cut which experienced a significant increase, which later saw a decrease in several foodstuffs such as carrots and vegetables,

Meanwhile, rice and cooking oil will certainly have a fixed price standard based on the highest retail price (HET) issued by Bulog.

"The government will carry out market operations to stabilize prices that have increased so that people can meet their needs in the holy month of Ramadan," he said.
