Re-elected As Governor Of BI, Perry Warjiyo Breaks A 50 Year Record!
JAKARTA Commission XI of the DPR RI has approved the appointment of incumbent candidate Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the 2023-2028 term of service.
This makes Perry the first person in fifty years to have the opportunity to occupy the seat of Governor of BI for two consecutive terms.
Previously, the head of the central bank for two terms was held by Rachmat Saleh who became Governor of BI 1973-1978 and 1978-1983. At that time, Rachmad devoted himself to the monetary system in the era of President Suharto's administration.
After Rachmat, practically the BI 1 seat was occupied by a number of names, which on average served only one period, such as Arifin Siregar 1983-1988, Adrianus Mooy 1988-1993, and Sudrajat Djiwandono 1993-1998.
Then, Syahril Sabirin 1998-2003, Burhanuddin Abdullah 2003-2008, Boediono 2008-2009, Miranda Goeltom May 2009-July 2009, Darmin Nasution 2009-2013, and Agus Martowardojo 2013-2018.
Furthermore, Perry's greatness in continuing his influence within the central bank can be seen from the decision of Commission XI of the DPR which unanimously elected him for a second term after completing his duties in the 2018-2023 period.
Not only that, he is also the only candidate proposed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the DPR.
"Alhamdulillah, the leadership and members of the DPR unanimously agreed that I be the Governor of BI for the period 2023-2028," he said at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta after undergoing a fit and proper test, Monday, March 20.
"This is in accordance with the Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the DPR. Thank you Mr. President for trusting me in the next five years," he said.
Good job Mr. Perry!
