The Israeli National Team Appears In The U-20 World Cup, Plt Menpora: This Is Not A Matter Of Policy, But The Law

JAKARTA - The participation of the Israeli national team in the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia is in the spotlight, even causing criticism. This is also a concern of the Menpora acting (Plt), Muhadjir Effendy.

Despite realizing the complicated situation, Muhadjir Effendy said he could not take a rash stance. He left this situation in accordance with the applicable law.

This statement was made by Muhadjir Effendy after the handover session of Acting Minister of Youth and Sports from Zainuddin Amali at Wisma Kemenpora, Senayan on Thursday, March 16 afternoon. On the same occasion, he also said that he would first coordinate with the relevant ranks

"The point is, we stick to our commitments. This is not a matter of policy, but a law," said Muhadjir Effendy.

"In the (opening) of the constitution in the first paragraph, it must really be held without compromise. So the grip is the constitution, 'That independence is actually' and so on," he added.

"So this still requires coordination and I have just prepared the related parties, I will immediately contact them," he explained.

Criticism about the Israeli national team that will appear in the U-20 World Cup has a poros on the actions they have taken against Palestine. Based on this situation, many parties from Indonesia did not allow Israel to appear in the world-level junior tournament.

Security aspects when the Israeli national team appears will not escape the talks.

Previously, the General Chairperson of PSSI who is also the Chairman of the Local Committee (LOC), Erick Thohir, ensured the security of the Israeli national team in Indonesia. However, he handed over security techniques to the government.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD has also prepared various routes for the arrival of the Israeli national team.
