Indonesian Racer Sean Gelael Hunts For FIA WEC Title, Travel Begins From Sebring
JAKARTA - The new FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) season will start this week. Indonesian racer Sean Gelael and Team WRT 31 stated that they are ready to compete to be the best.
Sean and the team's adventure will begin in Sebring. The riders will compete for the champions in the 1000 Miles of Sebring series.
Previously, Sean and his kawna friends had a pre-season test in Sebring, United States. In the pre-season test session, WRT 31 appeared in a complete formation of racers, the most popular Robin Frinjs who had just recovered from a hand injury while participating in Formula E in Mexico, in January.
"Prologue is over, it's time to focus on the real race," Sean said in an official written statement.
"There is nothing more encouraging than being able to rush the car again. After the Prologue I believe our car can still be even faster. Resting for two days is very helpful, and yes... this week we are racing again!" Frinjs said.
Meanwhile, Habsburg highlighted more equitable competition in all classes.
"We LMP2 drivers must often see mirrors. There are many GT classes, but on the other hand there are also many Hypercars. So if you want to follow GT, be careful if there are Hypercar cars behind us," he said.
In the pre-season session which took place on March 11-12, the WRT 31 team focused on car development, not on fastest laps. Even so, they were able to be in the Top 5 and another WRT car, #41, became the fastest.
This year the FIA WEC is only divided into three classes, namely, Hypercar (11 cars), LMP2 (12), and GTE Am (14) while the GTE Pro class is abolished. Hypercar classes will be more lively with the presence of new teams such as Ferrari, Cadillac, and Porsche.
Meanwhile, the Alpine team, who competed in the Hypercar class last year and won at Sebring, instead moved to LMP2 class in two cars.
