Indonesian Navy Deploys Standby Warships In RI-Timor Leste Waters For 300 Days
NTT - TNI AL deployed a number of warships from the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) in waters bordering Timor Leste for the next 300 days.
Commander of Lantamal VII Kupang First Admiral TNI I Putu Darjatna said the activity was in the context of an operation to monitor Indonesian-Australian waters under the name Operation Siaga Jaga Baruna.
"So, KRI Multatuli 561, which is now docked in Kupang, together with other KRIs will operate for the next 300 days to protect the border areas of Indonesia and Timor Leste," he said in Kupang, NTT, Wednesday, March 15, which was confiscated by Antara.
Darjatna said that Operation Siaga Jaga Baruna aims to maintain the security of the NTT waters so that they remain conducive.
The operation, he continued, was part of monitoring the movement of fishermen from NTT who often looked for fish to break into Australian waters.
"KRI will circle the islands in NTT to carry out socialization so that no more Indonesian fishermen enter to catch fish in Australian waters," he said.
Some time ago there were, he said, a number of fishermen from NTT who caught fish and entered Australian waters so that they were arrested.
However, thanks to good negotiations between the Indonesian government and Australia, a number of fishermen were finally repatriated to Indonesia and able to return to East Nusa Tenggara.
Lantamal VII Kupang continues to socialize for communities or fishermen on a number of islands, NTT areas, so that they no longer catch fish into Australian waters.
Regarding the security of the sea area, according to him, until now the situation and security in the region are still conducive.
