Anticipating The Eruption Of Mount Merapi, Kulon Progo BPBD Whose Refugee Locations
The KULON PROGO - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, has prepared refugee camps for residents in Magelang Regency, Central Java, who were affected by the eruption of Mount Merapi.
Head of BPBD Kulon Progo Joko Satya Agus Nahrowi said Kulon Progo, which borders Magelang, was not directly affected by the eruption of Mount Merapi.
"However, we are currently on standby for the eruption of Mount Merapi, if there are refugees from outside the region, such as Magelang," said Joko Satya as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 13.
He said he always communicated with BPBD Sleman and Magelang to overcome the impact of the eruption of Mount Merapi.
"We always communicate, especially if there is an eruption of Mount Merapi. Experience in 2010 the place of refuge was in the Kalibawang sub-district," he said.
According to him, anticipatory steps were prepared to reflect on similar incidents in 2010.
BPBD Kulon Progo, Joko continued, has prepared evacuation locations in four urban villages/ villages in Kapanewon (District) Kalibawang, including Banjaroyo, Banjarharjo, Banjarsari, and Banjararum.
"We see the situation and conditions, if there are indeed temporary refugees (prepared) for four urban villages/villages. Then we will direct them to the school buildings that are used for evacuation," he said.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Yogyakarta International Airport Agus Pandu Purnama said PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I continues to monitor the direction of the wind carrying Merapi's volcanic ash which is feared to disrupt flight activities.
AP I as the manager of Adisutjipto Airport in Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo Regency continues to monitor wind development.
"If the wind is to the west, YIA is still safe. We have monitored volcanic ash since yesterday, from the direction of the wind and its distribution. The range is not too wide," said Agus Pandu Purnama.
