Floods Recede, Residents Of Tasikmalaya Return To Normal Activities
TASIKMALAYA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java said that people affected by the flood overflow of two rivers in Sukaresik District had returned to normal activities after the puddles that hit their areas receded.
"The condition of the community is now gradually normal," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Tasikmalaya Regency BPBD Kurnia Trisna as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 10.
He said that the flood disaster hit residential areas in Tanjungsari Village, Sukaresik District, due to heavy rains and the impact of the overflow of the Citanduy River and Cikidang River which occurred early Thursday morning.
As a result of the flood disaster, he said, there were 624 houses affected or as many as 2,579 people, some of whom took refuge in madrasas and stayed at their homes waiting to recede.
Joint officers, he said, had been deployed to help the community during the flood incident, as well as currently after the receding floods continued to be monitored and aid was distributed such as supplying clean water.
"For BPBD itself is still in control, currently the distribution of clean water is concerned," he said.
He conveyed that the Tasikmalaya BPBD is not only focused on dealing with the affected communities, but also coordinating with the Agriculture Service regarding the damage to agricultural areas due to flooding.
In addition, he continued, he also conveyed the problem of flood disasters that routinely occur in Sukaresik District to the Citanduy River Basin Center (BBWS) to find solutions to solve flooding.
"Coordination with BBWS regarding solutions, we are currently waiting for a press release from BBWS," said Kurnia.
The river flood disaster hit residential areas in Bojongsoba Village, Hegarsari Village, and Mekarsari Village, Tanjungsari Village, Sukaresik District, which occurred after heavy rains flushed the area.
The area is reported to have always been hit by floods during the rainy season due to the overflow of two rivers, namely the Citanduy River and Cikidang River which are not far from residential areas.
The flood disaster only inundated residents' houses and the community's environment, while there were no casualties.
Joint officers together with the community have cleaned up the material from the remaining floods in the area so that people can return to their homes.
