Buy 16 KRL Made In INKA, KCI Budgets IDR 4 Trillion
JAKARTA - PT KAI (Persero) and PT KCI or KAI Commuter officially bought 16 passenger trains and electric rail trains (KRL) produced by PT INKA (Persero). This state-owned company has also prepared a budget of IDR 4 trillion for train spending.
This marks the signing of a cooperation contract. The signing was carried out in conjunction with the inauguration of the PT INKA (Persero) Banyuwangi workshop by the Deputy Minister (Wamen) II of BUMN, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Thursday, March 9, 2023.
President Director of KAI Commuter Suryawan Putra Hia said that the signing of the electric rail train (KRL) procurement contract was in accordance with the initial agreement at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed by PT KCI and PT INKA in 2022 yesterday.
"Procurement of train facilities is our commitment in supporting the Government's program to increase domestic production and import substitution through the Domestic Product User Improvement Program (P3DN)," said Suryawan in a statement quoted on Friday, March 10.
Suryawan explained that the procurement of 16 new trainsets of KAI Commuter trains has prepared a budget of almost IDR 4 trillion which will be completed in 2025-2026.
"Hopefully with the procurement of this new train and when the train is operated later, in addition to increasing the carrying capacity, it can also increase comfort and service to our users," he said.
The details of the contracts signed as follows:
1. Procurement Contract for 16 New KRL Trainsets between PT INKA (Persero) and PT KCI
2. The signing of the Procurement Contract for 612 SS New Generation Train Units for the 2023-2026 Replacement program between PT INKA (Persero) and PT KAI (Persero)
3. The signing of the 10 Luxury 26 Seat Train Car Procurement Contract for Argo Lawu Train, Argo Dwipangga Train, Taksaka Train and 1 2023-2024 Care Reserve Car between PT INKA (Persero) and PT KAI (Persero).
President Director of PT INKA (Persero), Eko Purwanto said this collaboration is a momentum for the revival of national railways and a form of collaboration between the nation's children, namely PT INKA (Persero), PT KAI (Persero) and KAI Commuter.
"As an operator, both PT KAI and KAI Commuter certainly want to provide the best service to their customers, and we, too, PT INKA, are always committed to providing high-quality products for our trains," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Didiek Hartantyo conveyed that the use of rail transportation modes, especially in Java and Sumatra, needs to be improved.
Furthermore, Didiek revealed that the advantages of rail transportation modes are that they are environmentally friendly, can transport large amounts, cheaper transportation costs, and safety and security considerations.
He also said that the procurement of train facilities could also attract public interest to remain loyal to using rail transportation services.
"The signing of this contract is a form of KAI to rise faster to serve better. So that people remain loyal to using trains as the main choice," said Didiek.
