171 Mothers Died While Giving Birth, NTT Service Claims The Number Has Decreased
KUPANG - Based on 2022 data, 171 mothers died while giving birth, Head of the Health, Population and Civil Registration Office of East Nusa Tenggara Province Ruth Laiksodat said cases of maternal mortality had decreased compared to 2021.
"The number of maternal mortality cases in the island-based province has decreased by 10 cases in 2 years, namely 181 cases in 2021, down to 171 cases in 2022," said Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Province Health, Population and Civil Registration Office Ruth Laiksodat, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday 9 March..
"The case of maternal mortality in NTT continues to decline, especially since health facilities in various regions in NTT are getting more adequate," said Ruth Laiksodat.
According to him, districts with the highest number of maternal deaths in NTT are South Central Timor Regency, Kupang Regency, East Manggarai Regency, Manggarai Regency, Southwest Sumba Regency and East Sumba Regency.
"Over the last two years, several areas have always emerged reports of maternal mortality," said Ruth Laiksodat.
He added that the Maternal and Child Health program has a very wide program coverage because the program coverage includes Continuum Of Care services from the time the baby in the womb reaches the elderly.
Ruth Laiskodat added that the trend of maternal mortality was still found in a number of areas such as Kupang City, North Central Timor Regency, East Flores Regency.
"The case of maternal mortality in several areas occurs because the patient is late at the hospital or the Puskesmas for medical treatment, even though the health care facility is very adequate," he said.
He hopes that people in NTT will bring women who want to give birth faster to hospitals and health centers so that they can be handled by health workers who are well trained.
