The Mystery Of The BUMN Corruption Case That Erick Thohir Brought To The AGO
JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir visited the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to report a new case of alleged corruption in one of the SOEs. Erick wants to clean up the Ministry of SOEs.
Erick Thohir agreed not to reveal the name of the BUMN because he was waiting for an in-depth investigation by the AGO.
"Indeed, today there is an agreement from the Attorney General not to talk about the case first, because there must be an in-depth investigation, then we will talk. Maybe give it 1-2 weeks," said Erick Thohir in his statement, Wednesday, March 8.
However, the Head of the Legal Information Center of the Attorney General's Office, Ketut Sumedana, revealed that the new cases reported by Erick came from the financial sector.
This is not the first time Erick Thohir has tried to eradicate corruption in the red plate environment.
When he only served as Minister of SOEs in 2019, he was immediately faced with the corruption case of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya (Persero) which is said to have been going on for ten years.
Then, he again reported the alleged corruption at PT Asuransi Sosial Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia (Asabri) in 2020.
Currently, the Jiwasraya and Asabri mega-corruption cases have proven to have cost the country Rp16.8 trillion and Rp22.7 trillion, respectively. Both come from sectors that intersect with finances.
Not only the financial sector, the former Inter Milan boss also found a number of alleged cases of misappropriation of funds at PT Waskita Beton Precast and the State Electricity Company (PLN).
Erick Thohir also reported PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk on suspicion of corruption in purchases in the procurement process for the ATR 72-600 aircraft.
During Erick Thohir's leadership, there were 159 SOEs that had stumbled upon cases of alleged corruption since he occupied the position of Minister of SOEs in 2019, of which 53 people involved have now been named suspects.
The chairman of PSSI had said that it was not easy to clean up and fix BUMN. Therefore, his synergy with the Attorney General's Office will be carried out as a comprehensive program in order to thoroughly investigate corruption cases at the Ministry of SOEs.
"Threats and ridicule come and go. But this must continue. SOEs must be healthy in order to provide many benefits to society and the country," said Erick Thohir some time ago.
