Deputy Minister Of Finance Calls ASEAN A Very Promising Area Compared To Countries In Other Parts Of The World, Why?
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazara said ASEAN is a very promising region today compared to countries in other parts of the world, such as Europe, the United States, or East Asia which are experiencing global dynamics. The origin is that ASEAN is one of the areas that grew high during the COVID-19 pandemic and near the end of the pandemic. "Believe us all we know the potential that our region has. This is very promising," said Suahasil in the Seminar High Level event entitled "ASEAN Matters-Epicentrum of Growth" in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 7. This potential, he said, can be seen from ASEAN demographics, ASEAN growth, the way countries in the region deal with inflation, the way ASEAN has handled prices, and so on in the midst of the recent pandemic. Therefore, the various steps taken by ASEAN in the last three years of the COVID-19 pandemic have shown how the resilience of the ASEAN region. The result said that Indonesia continues the Chairship of ASEAN 2023 from the G20 2022 Presidency, so there is a continuation of priority issues that it wants to be built. Therefore, in the financial line, there are three strategic boosts that have been established in the ASEAN 2023 Chairman, namely development and recovery, the digital economy, and sustainability. "This is three areas where we will encourage ASEAN in the midst of a moving world," he explained.
In an impetus related to development and recovery, he revealed that Indonesia wants to encourage the role of ASEAN in fostering recovery and ensuring regional economic stability and financial resilience. Furthermore, related to the digital economy, ASEAN is encouraged to advance payment connectivity, encourage digital financial literacy and inclusion to support inclusive economic growth, as well as strengthen resilience in the financial sector. As for sustainability, Indonesia wants to encourage ASEAN to promote transition financing to support sustainable finance and a green economy.
