RB Steering Committee Encourages Regulation Of Simple Life Official Movement
JAKARTA - Executive Secretary of the National Bureaucratic Reform Steering Committee (KPRBN) Eko Prasojo assessed that there needs to be a movement to encourage officials to live a simple lifestyle and be close to the community.
"What this official has done has an effect on the trust and image of the government," said Eko on the sidelines of a seminar with the theme "The Arrah of Indonesian Bureaucratic Reform and New National Leadership" at the FISIP of Diponegoro University, Semarang, Central Java (Central Java), Friday, March 3, was confiscated by Antara.
According to him, officials as public servants should stay away from the luxurious lifestyle, especially until it is shown to the people they should serve.
"So, I think this needs to be a kind of movement and policy for the government to encourage bureaucratic and political officials to live a simple lifestyle and be close to the community," he said.
Eko explained that the purpose of bureaucratic reform, one of which is to form a new culture, namely how officials as public servants are able to serve the community.
"This requires change. There are two changes. Structural and cultural changes. Well, this cultural change is the most difficult to do because it involves values within officials," he said.
He admitted that rich officials did not necessarily get their wealth from the proceeds of corruption, but they could get it from many sources, such as businesses or inheritance.
"Maybe the 'income' from a bureaucratic official came from anywhere. It could come from inheritance, business, commissioners (companies), and so on," he said.
However, Eko said officials should still reflect simplicity in life and set a good example for their subordinates and society.
Meanwhile, IAPA Chairman Prof Agus Pramusinto said the government could provide regulations to regulate official lifestyles, including what is permissible and should not be done.
Agus did not deny that there were officials who showed a luxurious lifestyle, but not a few had shown exemplary for simple lifestyles.
"We have to 'fair' look at it. Then, we have to make sure there is an example from the leadership regarding culture or a simple lifestyle. Our culture is a role model culture. If the above does not set an example, it will be difficult under it," he said.
