Hard At The Palembang Orphanage Spread Thanks To The Courage Of Foster Children Uploading Videos On Social Media, KPAI Encourages The Legal Process

SOUTH SUMATRA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) appreciates the courage of orphanage foster children in Palembang to upload videos of violence experienced by their colleagues in orphanages.

Deputy Chairperson of KPAI Jasra Putra said that thanks to the video uploaded on social media (medsos), the public knew about the violence against child victims in orphanages.

"I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the courage of the foster children to inspire the video. Imagine the situation of the child who has not been able to defend himself so far that he ventured to inspire the video on social media," said Jasra, Tuesday, February 28, as quoted by Antara.

KPAI regrets the violence in the orphanage since the last year with 18 children experiencing various violence perpetrated by orphanage owners.

"Even more heartbreaking is experienced by children with wheelchairs, who are most often subjected to violence from the perpetrators," said Jasra Putra.

Furthermore, KPAI found that before this case was revealed, there were orphanages who were admitted to the Charitas Hospital in Palembang because of the perpetrator's actions.

KPAI also encouraged the National Police to further dismantle the actions of the perpetrators since the first time the orphanage was established.

"With these very worrying findings. Do not let any victims fall behind," said Jasra.

Previously, based on public reports, the Palembang Polrestabes on February 25, 2023 responded to a video of child violence in an orphanage that went viral on social media.

The police moved quickly by securing the perpetrators, examining 24 people, with 18 of them foster children experiencing physical violence or psychological violence.

The police then named the perpetrator with the initials MH alias D who is the owner of the orphanage as a suspect and detained him.
