Fadli Zon Affirms Political Party Finances Must Be Clean For Corruption Eradication
JAKARTA - The chairman of the SEPAC (South East Asia Parliamentary Against Corruption), Fadli Zon, emphasized that money-boosting against the political process is very high and vulnerable to corruption. Therefore, he stressed that the finances of political parties must be clean.
"Money has an influence to corrupt the political and political financial processes that are not transparent in threatening democracy around the world. Without a good system, adequate regulations, and a strong control mechanism in poltic finance, the function of democracy and long-term economic development will be severely hampered," he said at the SEPAC Conference and General Assembly event in Jakarta on February 27 and 28, 2023.
The commitment of the DPR RI in promoting the anti-corruption movement continues. This is what is voiced and also a comprehensive solution is sought by SEPAC and collaborates with the BKSAP DPR RI.
SEPAC is an organization that includes members of parliament in Southeast Asia in the field of anti-corruption. In this 2-year event, SEPAC carried the theme Parliamentary Actions on Political Finance Oversight and Combating Green Corruption in Southeast Asia. This event was attended by members of Parliament from Indonesia and 7 ASEAN countries, academics, and anti-corruption activists.
The theme of political finance and green corruption is considered very relevant to the current conditions. Indonesia will enter a period of political campaigns at the end of 2023, as well as several countries in Southeast Asia.
The root of the corruption problem in many countries is the weak regulation and supervision of political financing, including funding for political parties, campaign funds, and also donations from third parties. So it is deemed necessary how parliament can play a role in increasing regulation and supervision for more transparent and corruption-free finance.
In this conference, speakers from various sectors were presented. Panelists come from various universities in the world as well as state institutions that have expertise and competence in the fields of politics, finance, and state financial audits.
Fadli Zon hopes that through this international meeting it can produce useful discussions as well as the development of regulations and mechanisms to strengthen the anti-corruption legislation system. He added that it is the responsibility of parliament in drafting and adapting regulations related to transparency in political financing and also the need for regulatory reforms in order to answer political challenges in the present and future.
