Press Inflation Rate, Ambon City Government Holds Market Operations

The Ambon City Government (Pemkot) continues to carry out market operations (OP) in a sustainable manner in order to maintain the price stability of basic necessities in the market as a rare suppression of inflation in the area.

"The high rate of inflation in Ambon City is also felt by several countries in the world, therefore we will continue to strive to suppress the inflation rate," said Ambon Mayor Bodew Wattimena as quoted by ANTAARA, Sunday, February 19.

He conveyed this while attending the 51st trial of the Maluku Protestant Church Congregation (GPM) Amahusu Country, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City.

According to him, referring to data issued by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Maluku Province, Ambon City inflation in January 2023 was 5.81 percent with a consumer price index (IHK) 116.56 which occurred due to price increases in 10 groups, especially in transportation groups by 18.56 percent.

He explained, in addition to carrying out market operations in a sustainable manner, the Ambon City Government has also taken steps by providing subsidies to groups of beneficiaries who have been directly affected by the increase in fuel oil (BBM), namely to 1,000 fishermen and 400 motorcycle taxi drivers in Ambon City since the last three months.

"It means that they can survive in the midst of the situation of increasing fuel by the end of 2022," he said.

His party also continues to strive to build food security for the community through the use of local food, therefore we as the Ambon City Government also thank the Maluku Protestant Church for helping to launch a family planting movement, and the family movement to go to sea.

In addition, residents of the Maluku Protestant Church have made efforts for local consumption, efforts to increase the economic resilience of the people through creating variations in local food processing in several congregations.

Therefore, the Ambon City Government also provides sufficient space for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), because they are business actors who continue to exist in the midst of any challenge.

"The MSME COVID-19 pandemic remains safe and maintains their business, therefore we hope that in the midst of the challenges of the global economic crisis, MSMEs will continue to be maintained, and related agencies will provide facilitation and support to continue developing MSMEs in Ambon City," he said.
