BIG Study On Proposal Of The Name Of The Discovery Of Mount Vawah Laut In Pacitan
PACITAN - The Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) will review the proposed name by Pacitan Regent Indrata Nur Bayuaji on an underwater mountain that was recently found in the southern waters of Pacitan Regency, East Java.Head of the BIG Beach Marine and Environmental Mapping Center, Yosef Sigit Purnomo, said the underwater mountain in Pacitan was found at coordinates 111,039 East Longitude and 10.661 South Latitude." “ Actually, the Pacitan Regent submitted the name proposal in the form of a letter that we will review on March 6-10. The name is not yet official,” he said at a press conference on the discovery of the Underwater Mountain in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, February 16.The underwater mountain has a height of about 2,200 meters which is at a seabed depth of about 6,000 meters with a peak at a depth of about 3,800 meters.He did not mention the name proposed by the Pacitan Regent, but the name contained a prayer so that the underwater mountain would not become a disaster, but instead became a new wealth for the local community."The Javanese language certainly has the word universe, protect the earth. Later when it is official we will convey it. If it is Javanese, it means guarding,” said Sigit.He said geospatial elements such as the discovery of underwater mountains needed to be named, so the process and stages of naming this name would be quite technical. The name must also involve the local community, because it will be related to culture, language, and how to pronounce it.This is in accordance with Government Regulation Number 2 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Name of the Rupabumi, which stipulates that naming must involve the community.He explained that the naming of topographical itself has several principles, namely using Indonesian and Roman Abjad, respecting the existence of ethnicity, religion and class, and avoiding the use of the name of the agency/institution.Furthermore, naming must avoid using the names of people who are still alive and can use the names of people who have died for a minimum of five years.The name must also avoid using the name of money against national and/or regional interests and must meet the rules of writing topographical names and spatial principles.In addition, naming can use one name for one top element with three words and can use regional languages or foreign languages if you have a common value, culture, customs, and/or religion.As a step to naming BIG in coordination with the community, the Pacitan Regency Government (Pemkab), the East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) and other Ministries/Institutions (K/L) such as Pushidrosal, BRIN and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on February 8, 2023.Later BIG as the National Name Authority (NNA) will conduct a central study of this sea mountain on March 6-10, 2023.Then BIG together with Pushidrosal will submit the element to the Sub-Committee on Undersea Features Names (SCUFN) and General Bathymetric Chart of The Oceans (GEBCO) to be carried out internationally.
