Financial Services Authority Expands Financial Education to Singkawang City Students

JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to expand its financial literacy and inclusion programs to students in the regions by conducting the Let's Save and Financial Education Campaign in Singkawang City, Friday.

The Chief Executive of OJK's Chief Executive for the Conduct of Financial Services Businesses, Education and Consumer Protection, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, directly delivered financial education to hundreds of elementary and junior high school students who were present at the Singkawang City Hall.

Present at the event were Singkawang Sumastro Mayor Officials and representatives of the Financial Services Industry, as well as elementary and junior high school leaders in Singkawang City.

In her remarks, Friderica advised students that financial management is an important ability for all people, including students, to have from an early age.

"Whatever your dreams are, the ability to understand financial service products and financial management is a key to your success in the future", said Friderica in a written statement, Sunday, February 12.

Furthermore, Friderica said that the OJK sees the younger generation as an important level of society to continue to receive financial education because understanding how to save and manage finances can help the future and prevent financial crime practices, for example, illegal investment practices and illegal online loans.

This activity was also welcomed by Sumastro and it is hoped that it can continue to be held regularly. Sumastro also appreciates the support from the OJK and the financial services industry to the residents of Singkawang City so that Singkawang can become a growing city and contribute to the progress of the Indonesian economy.

"We hope that the collaboration between entrepreneurs or MSMEs with the financial services industry can be strengthened again so that in the future these private workers can become part of strategic partners in the financial sector", said Sumastro.

In this activity, apart from financial education, 250 accounts were also opened for elementary and junior high school students. This financial education program is also in line with the 2022 National Financial Literacy and Inclusion Survey conducted by the OJK which showed the West Kalimantan region's financial literacy index was 51.95 percent, while the financial inclusion index was at 84.16 percent.
