Short History Of The Late Kobe Bryant's Follow-up Costume Which Was Auctioned At IDR 87.8 Billion

JAKARTA - The Sotheby's New York Auction House auctioned off the jersey of the late NBA legend, Kobe Bryant, on Friday, February 10, WIB. The valuables were sold for US$5.8 million, or around Rp.87.8 billion.

The auction price for Bryant's t-shirts from the 2007 to 2008 season is below the highest pre-sales estimate of US $ 7 million (approximately IDR 104.5 billion).

However, Sotheby's New York said the price was much higher than the previous high of US$3.7 million (around Rp56 billion), as reported by Antara via AFP.

The Bryant jersey was worn 25 times during Kobe's only MVP season from start to last playoffs before the NBA final.

During the 2007-2008 season, Bryant averaged 28.3 points per game and collected a total of 2,323 points throughout the season, according to statistics from the NBA.

In addition to getting the shirt, the auction winner also received a collection of memorabilia and Bryant's photos.

The jersey auction was held shortly after the threeth anniversary of Bryant and his daughter, Gianna Maria Onore Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in California, January 2020.

On the other hand, the memorabilia of athlete legends is a potential business to target at collectors and huge fans.

For example, Michael Jordan's jersey worn in the 1998 NBA final sold for $10.1 million in September 2022. The jersey is currently the most valuable item.

In addition, Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" jersey sold for $9.3 million (approximately Rp140.9 billion) in Sotheby's in London last year.
