PAPUA - Commander of Korem (Danrem) 172/PWY Brigadier General JO Sembiring admitted that the arrests of two soldiers, namely Pratu MS and Prada MS, were found to have 77 rounds of illegal ammunition."The two soldiers who served in Kodim 1702/Jayawijaya are currently being held at Subdenpom Wamena," said Sembiring when contacted in Jayapura.The arrests of the two soldiers began with the arrest of LK, who is the village head in Nduga Regency.From LK's confession, it was revealed that he had handed over 77 rounds of ammunition to the two soldiers, so the Dandim 1702/JWY immediately developed information and examined Pratu MS and Prada MS.From the examination, the two admitted and showed the storage area for 77 rounds of sharp ammunition caliber 5.56 MM."We are still investigating the alleged involvement of these two members in the possession of illegal ammunition, whether there is involvement with the armed criminal group (KKB) or not," said JO Sembiring as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 9.Danrem 172 emphasized that it would not tolerate any TNI members playing around or abusing ammunition because if they are proven to have violated, strict action will be taken in accordance with applicable legal regulations."The Commander of the TNI, Kasad and Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih have committed to giving strict sanctions to soldiers who violate the rules, especially if these violations fall into severe categories such as the misuse of ammunition," said Brigadier General Sembiring.
