The Film Dear David Shows Coming Of Age Stories And Youth Travel

JAKARTA - Netflix is preparing to release the latest original Indonesian film titled Dear David. Directed by Lucky Kuswandi, this film presents the journey of a teenager finding himself and the coveted love.

Dear David starred three young Indonesian actors: Shenina Cinnamon, Emir Mahira, and Caitlin North Lewis. The three of them were enthusiastic when playing their characters in this film produced by Palari Films.

"I play Laras. Laras has a very ambitious character, he is very diligent, the chairman of OSIS, he really loves his family. Just go straight, "said Shenina Cinnamon at a press conference today, Thursday, February 8.

"The first time I read the script, I felt like I was in Laras' position. I had my own trip and I wanted to spill Shenina to Laras where they needed a long process to love themselves," explained Shenina.

Emir Mahira plays David, the figure Laras coveted, while Caitlin North Lewis becomes Dilla, Laras' best friend.

This is a unique and interesting story. Something relevant and relatable. First of all, read that I feel like I have this movie to watch. Its a love letter to pass self," added Emir Mahira.

"When I got the first script, I was still a teenager so I was going through this whole experience. It's not only about identity but about family, friends, of course self-IDENTity about yourself," saidvia.

Lucky Kuswandi as the director admitted that his inspiration made Dear David come from the current situation where there are many demands against a child. In addition, things about loving yourself and mental health are talked about that are often done.

This film talks about universal even though the package is a teen film. Self love and compassion. We live in times we are always required to be more and always perfect so there is always pressure and feel. The essence of loving who we are and our complexity makes me very important to discuss," said Lucky Kuswandi.

Netflix's support for this coming of age story is also very large so that the topics presented can be relevant not only in Indonesia but globally.

"It is very important especially Netflix for the exploration of genres in films and series because Indonesian audiences have various preferences. If it is relevant locally, and films can be enjoyed or successfully, it is just proof of a different culture if the story is strong it can be enjoyed," said Muhammad Al Zaidy.

Dear David tells of Laras (Sherina Cinnamon), an OSIS chairman who secretly writes a blog containing fantasy stories about his schoolmate, David (Emir Mahira). One day, this blog is spread across the school and causes Laras scholarships to be threatened with ending.

The film Dear David will be released on Netflix globally starting Thursday, February 9.
