Arrested In Banda Aceh, KPK Will Bring Izil Azhar To Jakarta Today

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will escort the alleged graft suspect in the construction of the Sabang Pier, Izil Azhar, to the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, Jakarta, today, Wednesday, January 25. He was taken after being arrested in Banda Aceh yesterday.

"Today it is scheduled to be brought to Jakarta," said KPK Head of Reporting Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Wednesday, January 25.

Before being brought to Jakarta, Ali said that the former commander of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) had already had his health checked. It was stated that he could be brought by the anti-corruption commission to be held accountable for his actions.

"Health examinations and others have been carried out," he said.

As previously reported, Izil, who is a confidant of former Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf, has been a fugitive since 2018. He was a fugitive after being declared a suspect in alleged bribery related to the construction of the Sabang Pier.

In this case, together with Irwandi, Izil is suspected of receiving gratuities from PT Nindya Sejati officials in the amount of IDR 32,454,500,000. Both received gratuities for five years from 2007 to 2012.

In detail, in 2008 cash receipts were made 18 times with a value of Rp. 2.9 billion from Heru Sulaksono and Zainudin Hamid alias Let Bugeh. Then, Irwandi and Izil Azhar were also said to have received gratuities in the form of money in eight stages totaling IDR 6.9 billion in 2009.

Just like the previous gift, Heru Sulaksono and Zainuddin Hamid alias Let Bugeh took money from the construction and operational costs of the Unloading Pier development project in the Free Trade Area and Port of Sabang Aceh which was financed by the State Budget.

Next, Irwandi and Izil received IDR 9.5 billion in 31 installments. Finally, the two of them received IDR 13 billion in connection with the Sabang Pier construction project.
