JAKARTA - For Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, one of the duties of ulama is to take care of the people and the state so that they are in good condition.

"The duties and responsibilities of the ulama are to protect the people and protect the country. This has been carried out from the beginning by our ulama," said the Vice President in his direction at the Ijtima Ulama Nusantara event which was initiated by the Syura Council of the National Awakening Party (PKB), in Jakarta, Friday, January 13, quoted by Antara.

When the country is in a precarious situation, usually the ulama appear ahead to protect the people and the country.

In the era of independence, the ulama also appeared ahead by issuing a fatwa of obligation to expel the invaders, thus reviving the people's resistance.

In the event initiated by the PKB Shura Council, the Vice President reminded PKB to be founded in 1998 to provide a forum for kiai and ulama to contribute ideas for the nation and state.

The vice president, who participated in the congregating when the PKB was founded, hoped that PKB would continue to make the aspirations of kiai and ulama an inspiration.

Ijtima Ulama Nusantara, which took place from January 13-14, 2023, is a gathering forum and consolidation of the constructive ideas and views of the ulama, kiai, and leaders of Islamic boarding schools in the country in facing the 2024 General Election.

Previously, the Secretary of the PKB DPP Shura Council, KH Saifullah Maksum, in his statement, Wednesday (12/1), conveyed that the ijtima of this cleric was like a reunion of PKB leaders, as a party born from the womb of Nahdlatul Ulama.

He emphasized that PKB along its journey had given birth to many figures who had a big contribution to the nation.

The Ijtima Ulama Nusantara event, which took the theme "Ulama Bangkit Bersatu Menjaga Indonesia", was attended by scholars and kiai from NU Islamic boarding schools and national figures.

Kiai Maksum said Ijtima Ulama Nusantara was also held in order to ensure that the performance and program of PKB is always under the supervision and direction of ulama, as well as strengthening the relationship between the service of ulama and national life and community issues.

In addition, Ijtima Ulama Nusantara is expected to equate the vision of the PKB political struggle as a wasilah realizing the noble ideals of muassis Nahdlatul Ulama, as well as strengthening the solidity and togetherness of the ulama with the PKB political mission and agenda, both short-term, medium and long-term.

On that occasion, the General Chairperson of the PKB DPP Muhaimin Iskandar expressed his hope that the Ijtima Ulama Nusantara meeting would provide ideas, directions and ideas for the life of society and the nation.
