KPU Hopes Elections Viewed As Facilities For National Integration

The General Election Commission (KPU) hopes that all parties view the election as a means to unite the Indonesian nation.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari after an audience with the leadership of the Indonesian Confucian High Council (Matakin) at the Temple of Kong Miao, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, Friday, January 13.

"The term used by the KPU later, we hope that it will be a way of view for all of us that elections are a means of national integration," said Hasyim, confiscated by Antara.

Thus, he said, the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation can be maintained in the midst of holding elections, especially the 2024 election in the midst of various choices.

On the same occasion, the General Chairperson of the Matakin Archipelago Council, Budi Santoso Tanuwibowo, reminded all religious communities that competition such as in the election is a natural thing. Thus, in responding to this, they should still be able to maintain harmony in the life of society and the nation.

"Supposedly, for believers and noble character, competing is a natural thing as long as you don't do negative things and someone who believes can still get along," he said.

Differences in choice in elections, he continued, are natural because no one in this world has the same choice or exact view, even twins at all.

Furthermore, Asy'ari said, elections can also be seen as a means of deliberation so that the Indonesian people are optimistic that elections can give birth to the right leaders and representatives of the people.

"The election is also a means of deliberating with the Indonesian people because all are given the opportunity to speak out through voting. That is so that we are optimistic about entering the years of elections in 2023 and 2024," he said.
