Prisoners Of Madiun Youth Prisons Can Still Vote In The 2024 General Election, Although Many Do Not Have A NIK
JAKARTA - Class IIA Youth Headquarters Ardian Nova Christiawan ensured that the right to vote for correctional inmates (WBP) was fulfilled in the 2024 General Election. Although many of them do not yet have a Population Identification Number.
The fulfillment of the right to vote is carried out by coordinating with the Population and Civil Registry Service as well as the local general election commission (KPU). That way, the inmates can still participate in voting as a means of democracy, even though they are still in criminal period.
"The fulfillment of the right to vote for the inmates is the agenda for the initial meeting in 2023, so during the 2024 election we don't need to bother. Therefore, in the current year we coordinate with relevant agencies, such as the KPU and disdukcapil so that inmates can get their rights as citizens to participate in elections," said Ardian in Madiun, Friday, January 6, quoted from Antara.
According to him, Madiun Youth Prison has held meetings with the KPU twice in the past year, also coordinating with the Madiun Disdukcapil.
"The coordination meeting with the local KPU has been held twice, namely in November and December last year," he said.
The result of the meeting was that the KPU suggested that the assisted residents be recorded NIK at the Madiun Disdukcapil.
"Following up on the KPU's suggestion, we have also written to the Madiun Disdukcapil regarding this matter," he said.
Kalapas hopes that the letter sent can be immediately followed up by holding a meeting between three related institutions, namely the Madiun Youth Prison, KPU, and Madiun Disdukcapil.
Thus, the inmates can channel their voting rights and increase citizen participation in the 2024 General Election.
