Throwing Molotov Firecrackers at Jatiwarna Police Post Sues Densus 88 Regarding the Determination of Suspects
JAKARTA - The suspect in the Molotov terror case at the Jatiwara Police Station, Bekasi, has filed a pretrial lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court. The police said they would face the legal process.
The suspect who submitted the pretrial was named Jhon Sondang. He was arrested and became a suspect in a terror case on February 16, 2022.
"The National Police's Anti-terror Densus 88 will face a pretrial lawsuit for the suspect in the crime of terrorism JS," said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, to journalists, Friday, January 6.
Based on the Case Tracing Information System (SIPP) of the South Jakarta District Court, the pretrial request was registered with case number 118/Pid.Pra/2022/PN JKT.SEL dated 27 December 2022.
Then, the main point of the lawsuit is regarding the determination of the status of the suspect. The first pretrial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
Brigadier General Ramadhan said that the entire process of prosecuting and naming suspects carried out by Densus 88 Anti-terror was by the applicable regulations, namely Article 1 Number 7 and number 8 of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning Criminal Acts of Terrorism.
Moreover, the object of the attack or the throwing of Molotov firecrackers by Jhon Sondang is a strategic object and a public facility intended to serve the interests of the community.
"The object of the Jatiwarna traffic police post, Bekasi Metro Police, which was the target of the attack is a strategic object," said Ramadhan.
The action of throwing Molotov cocktails by Jhon Sondang was related to the issue of Wadas Village, Central Java. Throwing Molotov cocktails was called a form of protest.
The alleged motive was that a leaflet was found that contained a request to stop destroying nature and even violence.
