Crocodile That Appears on Bali's Legian Beach Dies Allegedly Due to Stress
BADUNG - An estuarine crocodile that appeared on Legian Beach, Kuta, Badung, Bali, has died. BKSDA suspects the death of the crocodile which caused a scene on Legian Beach was due to stress.
"The crocodile that was evacuated yesterday died. It is suspected that the causes were stress, dehydration, and shock. Both individually and in combination", said Head of the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Agus Budi Santosa, Thursday, January 5.
The BKSDA previously said that the crocodile that appeared on Legian Beach was thought to have come from the Tahura Ngurah Rai. This crocodile measures 2.9 meters.
"This is called an estuarine crocodile. This crocodile is male, and approximately 2.9 meters long. Today we have caught it and we will secure it first", he said, Wednesday, January 4.
This crocodile habitat is said to be in the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura). "Because it's its natural habitat there if it's still there in its natural habitat. But it doesn't come here (Legian Beach)", he added.
When examined, there are scars on the crocodile's body. BKSDA will conduct an examination.
“Is this actually a crocodile that is being kept and then released by its keepers or is this really from nature? We haven't confirmed this yet, we'll wait for the expert's results", said Agus.
