Vietnam Waiting For Good News When The Rescue Team Fights For The Evacuation Of Children Disrupted From The Hole 35 Meters Deep
JAKARTA - It is not a statement that the Vietnamese public expects. However, that is the latest condition of a massive rescue effort.
Hundreds of rescuers in Vietnam are struggling to save a 10-year-old boy from a 35m deep hole at a construction site. It happened allegedly on December 31 as quoted by Channel News Asia.
The boy, named Thai Ly Hao Nam. He fell into the pillar of a 25 cm wide holed concrete pillar.
The hole contains water as part of a new bridge in southern Dong Thap province. It is suspected that the boy was looking for scrap metal.
"We are trying our best. We can't tell you the condition of the boy yet," the rescuer said, identifying himself only as Sau.
According to media reports, rescuers have tried to drill and soften the surrounding soil to try to pull the pillars up to save Nam.
Authorities "are not sure about the current condition of the boy. He has stopped interacting externally even though oxygen is always pumped into the hole", the Vietnamese newspaper Tuoi Tre reported.
On Monday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on federal-level rescuers to join local authorities' efforts to save the boy.
