Mastodon Alami The Jump In Active Users Up To 2.5 Million Accounts Since Twitter Acquisitioned By Elon Musk

JAKARTA - Mastodon, a decentralized social media platform widely used as an alternative to Twitter, has now skyrocketed from around 300,000 monthly active users to 2.5 million between October and November. This was said by Mastodon's CEO, founder and main developer, Eugen Rochko, in a blog post.

Since Elon Musk officially took over Twitter in late October, it has sparked a huge spike in Mastodon users almost directly.

Rochko's post also discussed a Twitter ban that has now been canceled to share links with Mastodon, many journalists, and the @joinmassodon account itself following the ban that is still on the @ElonJet account.

"This is a clear reminder that a centralized platform can impose arbitrary and unfair bounds on what you can and cannot say while holding your social graph hostage," said Rochko, as quoted by The Verge.

"At Mastodon, we believe that there should be no intermediary between you and your audience and that journalists and government institutions in particular don't have to rely on private platforms to reach the public," he added.

Mastodon is not the only replacement for Twitter used by netizens. There was a Post app, which was led by former Waze CEO Noam Bardin, then the Hive app, which was recently re-launched after dealing with some security issues. There are also well-known social platforms such as Discord, Tumblr, and Reddit.

Despite growing interest in something that is not Twitter, this blue bird app still remains in the top ranks. It is evident that more than 17.5 million people voted in Musk's recent polls, who asked if he should step down as CEO of Twitter. Musk also repeatedly claims that Twitter's current use is at an all-time high.

But Rochko, sounds confident with Mastodon's future. Understanding that press freedom is essential to functional democracy, we are delighted to see Mastodon grow and become a household name in editorial spaces around the world, and we are committed to continuing to improve our software to face new challenges that come with rapid growth and increasing demand," he wrote.
