Like A Geothermal Potential, PLN Builds PLTP Ulumbu And Mataloko

PT PLN (Persero) built two Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP) in Flores, NTT, namely PLTP Ulumbu with a capacity of 20 mega watts (MW) in Manggarai Regency and Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 20 (MW) in Ngada Regency.

General Manager of PT PLN UIP Nusa Tenggara Wahidin said, based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Flores Island stores almost 1,000 MW of resources and reserves of 402.5 MW of geothermal.

"Flores, one of the islands in NTT Province that has promising geothermal potential, of course we as SOEs engaged in electricity have the goal of realizing Flores Island as an icon of Geothermal Island," Wahidin said in an official statement received by VOI, Monday, December 19.

Meanwhile, the two plants are currently in the process of pre-construction, PLTP Ulumbu is currently in the process of determining the Joint Location of the Manggarai Regency Government and PLTP Mataloko is currently in the process of procuring the Joint Land for BPN Ngada Regency.

"So we need support from stakeholders at the construction site, so that we achieve equal views, equalize goals, so that these two Geothermal Power Plants can run and this is a common interest", said Wahidin

PLN previously operated two geothermal power plants, namely (PLTP) Kamojang with a generating capacity of 140 MW in Bandung Regency and PLTP Lahendong 80 MW in Minahasa Regency.

In line with the government's commitment to achieve the target of the new and renewable energy mix (EBT) of 23 percent in 2025, PT PLN (Persero) is the main concern for the next few years.

PLN targets to build a new renewable energy plant (EBT) of 10.6 Giga Watt (GW), in addition to the PLTU efficiency program that is already running to achieve the target of the set mix.

Just so you know, of the 10.6 GW new EBT plants in 2025, 1.4 GW of them are Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP), and 3.1 GW in the form of hydroelectric power plants (PLTA).

The portion of the 1.1 GW Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTM), Solar Power Plants (PLTS) 3.9 GW, 0.5 GW of Bayu Power Plants (PLTB) and Biomass Power Plants (PLTBio) 0.6 GW.

This is also in line with President Joko Widodo's commitment to the Paris Agreement, Indonesia's commitment is then confirmed to be part of the 2020-2024 national development planning document and to make climate change management one of the national priority agendas.

"The construction of this PLTP is one of the national priorities and also supports investment growth and economic development in Flores. This requires concrete steps from all parties so that they can truly collaborate in order to realize Flores Island into Geothermal Island," concluded Wahidin.
