Interested In Follow In The Footsteps Of Alonso Jajal Another Racing, Verstappen Gives A Signal Will Leave F1 After His Contract In Red Bull Ends
JAKARTA - Max Verstappen openly admitted that he was interested in trying out races other than Formula One (F1) which had been occupied so far. This is considered a signal that the rider will change professions after his contract with Red Bull expires in 2023.
At the age of only 25 years, Verstappen has undergone 163 races in F1. The beginning of his career behind the wheel is also quite prominent.
He was recorded as the youngest F1 debutant with the age of 17 in 2015. Verstappen made achievements in the 2022 season. The title he secured became the second after winning the first last year.
Seeing his brilliant achievement with Red Bull, Verstappen seems to be loyal to his team. However, Verstappen's confession about wanting to try racing outside F1 is another signal.
Sources said Verstappen's wish arose because he reflected on Fernando Alonso's journey. The veteran racer participated in various other races, including the 24-hour Le Mans endurance race.
That's what made Verstappen interested in following his steps. If Fernando (Alonso) race at Le Mans, he would definitely want to compete for victory in a competitive car. Likewise with me," said Verstappen, quoted by Planet F1 on Wednesday, December 14.
From Alonso, the Dutch-Belgium racer is increasingly eager to try out another race once his contract at Red Bull is over. This situation led to the assumption that when the contract with Red Bull ended in 2023, Verstappen could choose to retire in F1.
F1 is indeed fun. We are currently achieving great success," said Verstappen.
"But I want to try something else. My contract with Red Bull expires in 2023. Maybe I can still be competitive for the next few years but on other roads," he continued.
Verstappen admitted that he had wanted to try a type of race other than F1 for a long time. However, the contract binding with Red Bull made him have no opportunity to realize his curiosity.
For years, I wanted to try a different experience. I wanted to have fun, without getting pressure and a schedule that wasn't that crowded," said Verstappen.
