JAKARTA - Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Munahar Muchtar is now a volunteer for the Presidential candidate promoted by the NasDem Party, Anies Baswedan. Munahar served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Barisan Pecinta Anies Baswedan (Baperan).Seeing this condition, a political observer from Al-Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, sees it better for Munahar to resign from his position at the DKI MUI.Because, it is feared, Munahar's political stance could affect the decisions he made while serving as chairman of the institution that accommodates the ulama in Jakarta."Actually, if you want to volunteer, you want to be a successful team, then step down from the chairman of the DKI MUI so that people can see wisdom there," Ujang said when contacted, Monday, December 12.Ujang understands that there are no rules in other laws or regulations that prohibit administrators from religious institutions from determining their political attitudes. However, what Ujang emphasized was the ethics of Munahar as Chairman of the DKI Jakarta MUI."The problem is because he is a public figure for the community, a scholar who has sided with certain presidential candidates, it is a problem for supporters of other presidential and vice-presidential candidates," said Ujang."I still see ethical issues or not. It should have been differentiated between the chairman of the MUI and the volunteers. I should have resigned so that there would be no polemics or debates among the community," he continued.On Sunday, December 11, Anies Baswedan attended the declaration of "Anies for President 2024" which was held by the Baperan volunteer group in the East Jakarta area.During the event, it was revealed that the Chairman of the DKI MUI, Munahar Muchtar, served as Chairman of the Baperan Board of Trustees. Munahar came and accompanied Anies during the declaration.
