Pos Indonesia Gives Gas Tubes Assistance To Refugee Victims Of Mount Semeru Eruption

PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) distributed aid in the form of gas cylinders for refugees victims of the eruption of Mount Semeru, Lumajang Regency, East Java, who live in relocation housing.

President Director of PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) Faizal R Djoemadi in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday, December 11, said that his party immediately dispatched gas cylinder assistance for Semeru's eruption refugees after listening to the difficulties of residents getting the gas cylinder.

"This is part of Pos Indonesia's social responsibility, as a BUMN, to the community. Previously, we helped victims of the Cianjur earthquake," he said while reviewing the victims of the Mount Semeru disaster in Lumajang Regency in refugee camps, quoted from Antara.

Before deciding to provide assistance, he continued, his party had coordinated in advance with the Lumajang National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to ensure that the goods that were needed were victims of the Semeru eruption.

"Yesterday I coordinated with BNPB Lumajang, I asked what the purpose was. It turned out that gas cylinders were used to cook in relocation shelters. We distributed gas cylinders, we got them from Jember," said Faizal.

Previously, the Regent of Lumajang Thoriqul Haq stated that refugees in disaster relocation had difficulty getting gas to support their daily lives.

"The gas cylinder in Lumajang is running out. We ask for the help of gas cylinders. Maybe a lot of people don't think that this is a necessity for people's lives. Because this really helps a lot of people. We find it difficult to find it," said the regent.

He said that people whose houses were destroyed were replaced by the government, however, this did not completely solve the problem because there were other needs.

These needs include the availability of gas cylinders for cooking purposes, he added, currently gas cylinders are difficult to find in Lumajang.

People who are affected by the Semeru eruption, once they enter the relocation house, we fulfill all their basic needs. For example, gas cylinders, stoves, spoons, plates, mattresses, pillows, including suitable clothes that we collect from the community," he said.

Mount Semeru erupted again on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Due to the eruption, thousands of residents were forced to flee in a number of locations. Semeru erupted again on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 05:53 WIB.
