Already Qualified, The Daddies Main Is Safe At The Closing Party Of The 2022 WTF Elimination
JAKARTA - Men's doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan appeared with a relaxed pattern of play in the last match of the Group B preliminary round of the 2022 World Tour Finals tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, Friday.
The match lasted briefly for just 26 minutes, and ended with the defeat of the pair nicknamed The Daddies in the hands of the men's doubles from China Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi in two straight games 13-21, 18-21.
Even though they lost to Liu/Ou, The Daddies had already been confirmed to qualify for the semifinals of the year-end tournament which took place on December 7-11.
Launching Antara, The Daddies also escaped the preliminary phase by recording two wins and one loss, thus placing his position as runner-up in Group B. Meanwhile, Liu/Ou advanced to the last four as winners of Group B.
Although The Daddies did not wipe out three victories from the preliminary phase, technically this was quite profitable for the fate of the Indonesian men's doubles because they avoided the "brothers' war" match in the semifinals.
Apart from The Daddies, the Red and White Squad also successfully passed the Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto pair to the semifinals after pocketing runner-up status from Group A.
With the runner-up status obtained by The Daddies and Fajar/Rian, they will not meet because in the semifinals they will compete between champions and runners-up from each group.
On the same day, Fajar/Rian first appeared by facing the pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi from Malaysia.
Fajar/Rian also lost the final preliminary match with a rubber game 21-10, 17-21, 19-21. However, they still qualified for the semifinals based on the calculation of points, thanks to a one-game victory over Ong/Teo today.
They also benefited from the points from the previous two parties against Choi Sol Gyu/Kim Won Ho (South Korea) and Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi (Japan) which were all won in two straight games, the BWF report said on its official website.
