The KPK Threatens The Death Penalty If Officials Make The Wrong Use Of Cianjur Disaster Assistance
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) does not hesitate to apply the highest sentence for officials who misuse earthquake relief in Cianjur, West Java. If anyone is proven to have committed the practice of rasuah, they will be charged with the death penalty.
"When there are friends who abuse their authority, misuse of money allocated for the benefit of this disaster by unlawfully, the person concerned will be processed through investigation, investigation, and prosecution with the demand for the death penalty," said KPK Deputy Chair Johanis Tanak as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Wednesday, December 6.
Although he has never applied the death penalty for officials who have corruption in the aid budget, severe punishments have been imposed on them. Thus, Johanis reminded Cianjur, who had just been hit by a disaster, not to become a land for land for fraudulent officials.
Johanis said, they should not carelessly manage aid money. "The KPK has implemented, a high-ranking official in this country has already been sentenced to 20 years," he said.
The KPK has already gone directly to Cianjur, which was rocked by an earthquake on Monday, November 21. During the visit, the Secretary General of the KPK, Cahya H. Harefa, reminded the Cianjur Regency Government that it is obliged to manage the provision of assistance for disaster victims properly.
Don't let donations enrich certain groups. "We don't want this to happen, therefore the KPK also pays attention to the distribution of Cianjur's disaster donations," he said.
The KPK ensures that it will continue to monitor the development of aid management for disaster victims. This step was taken to prevent corrupt practices.
"Hopefully friends in Cianjur can remain steadfast and strong in facing this ordeal, and most importantly still have the spirit to recover and rise," he said.
