Alert For Tidal Floods On The Jakarta Coast Until December 13

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has asked people living in the coastal area of Jakarta to be aware of the potential for coastal flooding or tidal flooding.

Tidal floods are predicted to hit from today until November 28. This information is based on the latest data obtained by the Tanjung Priok Maritime Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"Be aware of the coastal flooding (rob) of DKI Jakarta Province from December 6 to December 13 at 08.00 to 12.00 WIB," wrote the Instagram account @bpbdddkijakarta, quoted Tuesday, December 6.

The coastal areas of DKI Jakarta such as Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, and Kalibaru are advised to be aware of the increase in the maximum sea level which has the potential to cause coastal flooding.

BPBD DKI revealed that the potential for tidal flooding in the six urban villages located in North Jakarta occurred in line with sea level rise.

"The existence of tidal activity together with the new moon phase affects coastal dynamics that have the potential to cause coastal flooding or tidal flooding," explained BPBD DKI Jakarta.
