Minister Yasonna Claims RKUHP Has Motivated Public Aspirations Ahead Of Ratification

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly claimed that the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP) had accommodated various people's aspirations before it was passed into law.

"Yes, it has been accommodated," Yasonna told reporters while attending the launch of a book by constitutional law expert Jimly Asshiddiqie at the Judicial Commission Office, Jakarta, Monday, December 5.

Then, when asked about the timing of the ratification of the RKUHP which was planned by the DPR, it would be held at the nearest plenary session, namely Tuesday, December 6, Yasonna said she could not confirm this.

"We'll see tomorrow, yes. That should be it," he said.

Previously, Commission III of the DPR together with the government represented by Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej agreed that the RKUHP would be continued at the next discussion to be ratified into law at the nearest plenary session of the DPR RI.

"We ask for approval from members of Commission III and the government, whether the bill on the Criminal Code can be continued at the second level of discussion, namely the decision making of the Bill on the Criminal Code which will be scheduled at the nearest plenary meeting of the DPR RI. Can it be approved?" said Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, who chaired the working meeting in Jakarta, Thursday, November 24.

The question was then answered in agreement by all members of Commission III of the DPR who were present.

To further emphasize the approval regarding the ratification of the RKUHP level I, Adies asked all representatives of the faction and the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to sign the agreed RKUHP manuscript.

On that occasion, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or familiarly called Eddy said that the ratification of the RKUHP into law is expected to be the basis for the building of Indonesia's national criminal law system.

In addition, he added, the RKUHP is also expected to realize the mission of decolonating the RKUHP or the legacy of colonial heritage.
