BNPB Reports The Number Of Victims And Damage As A Result Of The Garut Earthquake

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 rocked Garut on Saturday, December 3, afternoon. From the initial report, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) found one resident with minor injuries.

The victim who suffered minor injuries was a resident of Putrajawa Village, Selaawi District. The victim has been taken to the nearest Puskesmas.

Meanwhile, the damage data compiled by the BNPB Control and Operations Center (Pusdalops), there were four damaged houses and one school unit was damaged.

"For the time being, four houses were damaged in Garut Regency, and 1 school unit, SDN Jatiwanti 1 was also damaged. One victim was injured and has been taken to the local health center," said BNPB Head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, as quoted from Antara, Saturday, December 3.

Suharyanto ensured that he immediately sent a team to assist with regional assistance and a rapid study of other necessary needs. Meanwhile, the development of emergency information related to the Garut earthquake will be delivered regularly.

"Of course, with the entire team and BPBD, I will immediately gather further information and information. And any developments of information obtained will be informed to the public," said Suharyanto.

Suharyanto then told that the Garut earthquake was felt quite strong for 4-5 seconds in Garut Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency and Bandung Regency. Suharyanto, who is currently still at the Cianjur Earthquake Disaster Emergency Command Post, also felt it.

There have been no reports of aftershocks that were felt and had a significant impact. However, the Head of BNPB still asked residents to remain calm and alert and careful.

Furthermore, looking at the depth of the earthquake according to BMKG data, Suharyanto hopes that the shock will not be too damaging and will not cause casualties.

"According to BMKG, this earthquake is quite deep. Based on the experience of the previous earthquake, with a depth of above 60 kilometers, especially above 100 kilometers, this is expected not to be too damaging," concluded Suharyanto.
