TNI Holds Simulations In The Event Of A Super Strong Earthquake In Central Lombok

JAKARTA - Korem 162/WB personnel in West Nusa Tenggara held an earthquake prevention exercise with a magnitude 8 in Central Lombok Regency.

The commander of Kodim 1620/Lombok Tengah, Lt. Col.TENance IF Andi Yusuf Kertanegara, explained this simulation as a form of coordination, communication and evacuation training to anticipate natural disasters in the region.

"Through this disaster management training, we improve our knowledge, preparedness, and the ability of personnel to deal with natural disasters that may occur at any time," said Andi Yusuf, Thursday, December 1, as reported by Antara.

Training also aims to increase the capacity of the community in order to support regional resilience and disaster management to reduce the risk due to natural disasters.

"Basically NTB Province is a disaster-prone area," he said.

"The focus of the activity in this exercise is assessing response actions, reviewing the capabilities of early warning system communication support equipment, cooperation between agencies and evaluating," he said.

To note, the personnel involved in the Time Table Table Floor Game (TFG) Latgulbencal Korem 162 established training posts centered on the Praya District Roundabout Field.

Starting with a scenario, namely a natural disaster, an 8 magnitude earthquake rocked the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 09.00 WITA.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) informed that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 10.86 degrees South Latitude; 116.21 East Longitude or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 75 KM due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian plate.

A powerful earthquake that occurred triggered a potential Tsunami which is expected to arrive in approximately 26 minutes on the southern coast of Lombok, following the earthquake.
