Unfolding Mystery! Goalkeeper Chronology Andre Onana Quoted From Cameroon's National Team: Eto'o Has Tryn To Mediate But Fails

JAKARTA Goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped from the Kamerin national team squad at Qatar's 2022 World Cup. Inter Milan's goalkeeper's name disappeared from the starting eleven (XI) list when Cameroon drew 3-3 at Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

In that match, Cameroon played the Epassy Devis fielded as goalkeeper.

This deletion is clearly surprising because Onana was not only removed from the starting XI, but also from the bench. In fact, he previously played when Cameroon lost 0-1 to Switzerland in the first match of the group stage.

According to several reports, Onana was removed from the team due to disciplinary action. However, Spanish media, Marca, claims that the discipline is not the main reason for the deletion.

The media said that Onana was set aside because it did not match the Cameroonian coach Rigobert Song's scheme. The information was obtained by Marca through the goalkeeper's closest people.

The coach considered Onana too risky as a goalkeeper. For that, Song decided to choose Devis Epassy who was more suitable for his wishes.

Previously, there were reports that Onana was removed by Song because the two were involved in an argument. Song reportedly started shouting at Onana during training on Saturday.

After training, the two had discussions. However, Onana insisted that she would not change the way she played under Cameroon's goal.

This problem made Song finally decide to expel Onana training camp. Song even thought that making Onana the second choice goalkeeper was also not a good option.

Samuel Eto'o as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation has actually tried to mediate between the two. However, Eto'o then preferred to support Song's position so Onana was forced to disappear from the squad.

The Cameroonian Football Federation has issued a statement. They fully support the coach's policies.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation hereby informs the public that following Rigobert Song Bahanag's decision, player Andre Onana has been temporarily suspended from the team for disciplinary reasons.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation reaffirms its full support for the head coach and his entire staff as they implement a federation policy aimed at maintaining discipline, solidarity, and cohesion in the national team."

"FECAFOOT further reaffirmed its commitment to creating a peaceful atmosphere for the team and providing adequate facilities for outstanding performance," the statement continued.
