He became the first player to score in five different editions of the World Cup. Previously, Ronaldo scored goals in the 2006 World Cup, 2010, 2014, and 2018.
"It was a beautiful moment, my fifth World Cup, and we have started with a good foothold," Ronaldo said as reported by Antara via AFP, Friday, November 25.
"It was a very important win, we knew the first game was very important, but the world record was also something that made me very proud," he continued.
The 37-year-old surpassed Lionel Messi, Miroslav Klose, Pele and Uwe Seeler's record for scoring in four different World Cup editions.
Only Lionel Messi has the opportunity to match Ronaldo's achievements, but it is relatively small. Because Messi will be 39 years old if Argentina is included in the next edition of the World Cup, namely 2026.
