Bank Indonesia States Ready To Support The Chairmanship Of The Republic Of Indonesia In ASEAN 2023
JAKARTA - The monetary authority of Bank Indonesia (BI) expresses its full support to the government for ASEAN's chairmanship in 2023. This was conveyed directly by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo when facing Commission XI of the DPR RI to attend a working meeting.
"After the success of the G20, we are ready to support the presence of Indonesia in ASEAN 2023," he said, quoted on Thursday, November 24.
According to Perry, the central bank will contribute by referring to two main focuses. First, strengthening fiscal and monetary coordination to maintain financial system stability so that they can jointly face the impact of global turmoil.
"As well as the second focus related to cooperation in the ASEAN payment system which was signed yesterday by five countries in Southeast Asia," he said.
Especially for the second point, Perry admitted that BI would make efforts to expand the payment system to all ASEAN countries.
This collaboration becomes a stepping stone to pave the way for stronger and more advanced cross-border payment connectivity, his tagas.
For information, Bank Indonesia together with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and Bank of Thailand (BOT) agreed to strengthen and increase cooperation in payment connectivity in the region through the QR Code application.
The collaboration is aimed at realizing and supporting faster, cheaper, transparent, and inclusive cross-border payments set out through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (NK) on November 14 on the agenda of the Bali G20 Summit.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN 2023 seeks to bring solutions to several problems faced, such as the Myanmar conflict, the plan to enter Timor Leste into ASEAN, to the impact of the China-US conflict in the region.
