Ecuadorian Supporters Make It Into The 2022 World Cup, FIFA Take Steps
JAKARTA - The International Football Federation (FIFA) will conduct an investigation regarding allegations of disgraceful actions committed by Ecuadorian supporters. They are accused of performing discriminatory and abusive singing.
The match was carried out by Ecuadoran fans during the opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Qatar at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor, Sunday, November 20.
FIFA did not specify what the song would be like. However, reportedly, the song violated Article 13 of the code of discipline.
"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened legal proceedings against the Ecuadorian Football Association because of Ecuador's supporters' chants during the Qatar World Cup match against Ecuador which was played on November 20," FIFA said in a statement quoted by Antara via AFP, Wednesday, November 23.
If found guilty, this will be the first disciplinary action by supporters at Qatar's 2022 World Cup.
However, this is not the first "treamous" act of Ecuadorian supporters in Qatar. Previously, one of Ecuador's supporters was involved in a dispute with Qatari fans and then went viral on social media.
The reason is the act of supporters of Ecuador who show money gestures. It is suspected that the gesture was to insinuate Qatar, which only had money to appear in the World Cup.
