OGAN ILIR - Police officers from Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, arrested a fugitive perpetrator of the shooting of a candidate for village head to death.Kasatreskrim Ogan Ilir Police AKP Regen Kusuma said the perpetrator was a man with the initials RI (45), a resident of Betung II Village, Lubuk Keliat, Ogan Ilir.The perpetrator, who has been a fugitive for four months, was arrested in an ambush operation carried out by Ogan Ilir Police Satreskrim personnel on Friday afternoon at around 12.30 WIB at his home."The perpetrator has been detained at the police headquarters for examination," he said in Indralaya, South Sumatra, Antara, Friday, November 18.During the arrest, the police obtained evidence in the form of a firearm and a machete which was allegedly used by the perpetrator to kill the victim.However, the police still need to conduct an in-depth investigation to find out the chronology and motives of the perpetrators of shooting the victim."The examination process is still ongoing, the results will be officially submitted soon," he added.Based on information compiled from the police, the shooting victim named Arpani (50) was a candidate for head of Betung II Village, Lubuk Keliat District, Ogan Ilir, who was about to advance in the October 2022 Pilkades.The victim's body was found by residents of Betung II Village with stab wounds and shots in the stomach and neck on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at around 05.30 WIB.Several witnesses confessed to the police before finding the victim's body, they heard gunshots.After the shooting, the witness said the perpetrator fled towards the forest behind the village, crossing several local residents' houses.Since then, the Ogan Ilir Police Satreskrim has continued to develop in collaboration with the Tanjung Raja Police Criminal Investigation Unit to uncover a murder case that was of concern because it was carried out using firearms.
