President Jokowi Hopes That The ASEAN-US Partnership Will Be Part Of The World Problem Solutions

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the ASEAN-US Strategic Comprehensive Partnership launched at the ASEAN-US Summit at Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saturday, November 12, can be part of a solution to the world situation that is facing extraordinary challenges. This hope was conveyed by President Jokowi when speaking as the coordinating country for the ASEAN-US Summit dialogue attended by US leaders and US President Joe Biden at Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saturday local time. "This partnership was launched while the world was facing extraordinary challenges. I want to read out a summary of ASEAN Common Sense, where the ASEAN-US partnership can contribute to being part of the solution," said President Jokowi. There are three things President Jokowi put forward in the meeting. First, the President encourages the realization of partnerships for regional peace and stability. ASEAN wants the presence of AS in the region to bring positive energy to peace. US support against ASEAN centrality must be translated into real action, in particular the role of ASEAN as an agendada-setterdinamika in the region and the formation of inclusive regional architectures," said the President. The second thing President Jokowi said was to build partnerships for regional and global resilience. Policy synergy must be encouraged to ensure the stability of financial systems, liquidity support, and effectiveness of economic policy.

Efforts to build food security must be a top priority. I hope that ASEAN and the US can work together in increasing food production capacity, developing superior seeds, utilizing agricultural technology, and strengthening food security strategies in the region, "said the President. As for the third thing, creating partnerships for a sustainable future. President Jokowi said ASEAN is strongly committed to realizing a sustainable future. For example, ASEAN will increase its use of renewable energy by up to 23 percent by 2025. We appreciate the US commitment to clean energy in the region. ASEAN-US cooperation can be directed to encourage investment and transfer of low-carbon technology, create new jobs in energy transitions, create a conducive regulatory framework, and funding, concluded President Jokowi in the ASEAN-US Summit, namely Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
