Mass Layoff Meta, Mark Zuckerberg Responsible For Company Step Errors

JAKARTA Meta Platforms Inc will begin firing several employees on Wednesday morning, November 9. This was said by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to hundreds of executives on Tuesday, November 8.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Zuckerberg looked saddened at Tuesday's meeting and said he was responsible for the company's missteps and his excessive optimism about growth had led to staff excesses.

He described the widespread cuts in the number of employees and specifically mentioned the recruitment and business teams as among those facing layoffs. He also added that the company's internal layoff plan is expected to be around 6 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, November 9.

Certain employees who have lost their jobs will be informed in the morning, said a source in Meta who did not want to be named to Reuters.

Meanwhile, according to a WSJ report, Meta's head of human resources, Lori Goler, said employees who lost their jobs would be given at least four months' salary as severance pay.

Meta reports that they had more than 87,000 employees by the end of September. The company declined to comment on reports of layoffs from the WSJ.

The development came after Twitter laid off half of its workforce across the team from communication and content curation to products and techniques following the acquisitions made by Elon Musk.

However, Bloomberg on Sunday reported Twitter was recalling dozens of employees who lost their jobs and asking them to return to work.

Meanwhile Microsoft Corp also laid off about 1,000 employees in several divisions in October, Axios reported.
